Setup & instructions

The unit shifts across as before, then on a slow or loose switch the nearest presser springs to intercept and win the ball, breaking out. Emphasise patience in the shift, reading the moment to gamble, and an explosive jump to win it. Do not spring too early. Rotate.

Setup time: 2 min

Coaching focus

FROM SESSION PLAN

Coaching points

  • Patient in the shift first
  • Read the slow or loose switch
  • Explode to intercept, do not dangle
  • Win it cleanly and break out
  • If it is not on, keep shifting

Common mistakes

  • Springing too early, getting played through
  • Dangling a leg instead of committing
  • Losing shape before the trigger
  • Not breaking out after winning it

Progressions & regressions

VARIATIONS

Progressions

  • Live, free opponents
  • Win it and counter to goal
  • Any presser can spring the trap

Regressions

  • Just the shifting, no winning it (the base drill)
  • Two pressers, prioritise ball-side
  • Slower switches
