What makes a session plan actually work

Six principles we look for in every plan, the ones coaches cite when they explain why a session landed or didn't.

Progression

Each block gets more complex, activation to technical to tactical to competitive game.

Realism

Constraints and pictures mirror the opposition problem or the week's game model.

Overload

Numerical or positional overloads that encourage the tactical behavior you're after.

Decision-making

Drills end with a decision, not a pre-scripted outcome, players choose under pressure.

Coachability

Planned interventions rather than constant stoppage, coach moments matter more than chatter.

Recovery

Load ramps down. Sessions end recovered, aligned, and ready for the next day.

Football session plan FAQs

How the plans work, where 90-minute sessions fit, and how drills attach to the plan.

What is included in each football session plan?
Each plan includes a total duration, session theme, intensity, planned blocks with objectives and coaching notes, and the actual animated drills from the training-drills library attached to each block.
Can I use these plans for a 90 minute football training session?
Yes. The standard tactical plan is built for 90 minutes, and shorter plans can be extended by adding blocks or linking extra drills from the training-drills library.
How do I use one of these session plans with my own team?
Open the plan and copy it to your planner: the blocks, timings, and drills land in your account as an editable draft you can reshape, schedule, and run in live delivery mode.

Pick a plan, shape it around your squad

Copy any plan into the session planner to customize duration, swap drills, link board scenes, or carry the session straight into live delivery.
