Clinical Finishing: Senior (85 Min)
An eighty-five minute session for senior teams on the part of attacking that decides games once the chances are scarce: taking them. It is not about creating the chance, it is about converting it, reading the goalkeeper and choosing the right finish from an arsenal rather than defaulting to power, staying composed when the moment matters, and repeating that reliably under pressure and fatigue. Placement over power, the calm touch over the rushed swing.

Objective: Warm up the striking technique before the reads
Coach note: Get the striking foot warm and both feet involved, and set the tone early that this is about placement, not power. Keep the volume high and the technique repeatable, since reliability under pressure later is built on a groove now.
shooting · 3 players
Clean contact, both feet, placement over power. Groove it before the reads are added.
Open full drillObjective: Build the arsenal and the reads that choose between them
Coach note: This is the session. Coach the read first and the technique second: a striker who looks at the keeper and picks is clinical, one who has decided before he sees anything is guessing. The bottom corner with placement is the reliable default, and the arsenal is the set of exceptions, round the keeper who rushes, chip the one who commits to ground, go across the body past a set keeper. Coach out the default-to-power, since that is the pressure response and it misses. Keep the keeper live and reactive, because the whole skill is beating a real one, and keep the volume high with short queues. Water break between the two activities.

Read then decide. Placement is the default, power is the panic response.

The finish for a keeper who commits to ground. Minimal power, maximum accuracy.
Open full drillObjective: Finish clinically with a defender closing and legs tired
Coach note: This is where clinical finishing is actually tested, since a finish that only works unopposed and fresh is not much use. On shooting under pressure, coach getting the shot away early and placed rather than late and rushed, because a recovering defender wins the delay, and composure, not power, is what beats him. On finishing under fatigue, the point is that the deciding chances come late and after running, so rehearsing the calm finish with a high heart rate is exactly the transfer that matters. Keep insisting on placement and the read even as they tire, because that is when the discipline slips. Water break between the two activities.

Early and placed beats late and wild. Composure beats the recovering defender.

Open full drillObjective: Convert scarce chances in a real game
Coach note: Keep the game tight so chances are genuinely scarce, which is what makes each one matter and forces the composure the session trained. Track conversion out loud, chances taken against chances made, because at senior level that ratio is the honest measure of a forward. Watch for the fault the session exists to fix, blazing a good chance over the bar under pressure, and name it calmly rather than harshly, since confidence is part of finishing. Coach with questions between goals, what did the keeper give you, and keep the finishes coming.

Keep chances scarce, track conversion out loud. Name the blazed chance calmly, confidence matters.
Open full drillObjective: End calmly and fix finish selection
Coach note: Keep this short and be honest about why it exists. Cool-down research in adults shows no effect on soreness or next-day performance and there is no children's evidence at all, so this block is here for ritual and reflection. Ask how they decide which finish to use, and why the calm placed finish beats the powered one under pressure. If they can talk about reading the keeper and composure, they are thinking like a finisher rather than a shooter.
conditioning · 4 players
Relaxed and brief. The conversation matters more than the movement.
