Possession drills for U9-U10

Keep the ball as a team against equal numbers: create angles, support quickly, and string passes together to score points.

Keep the ball with the neutral. Circulate, use the neutral to escape the press, and switch the play to the free man.

Beat the pressure in a hands-only game: move and support to get free, create the space, and head a team-mate's throw into the goal.

Play tight 2v2 futsal: protect the ball, use the one-two to escape, and finish sharply. Relentless pressure, no time to dwell.

Play fast, tight futsal: protect the ball with the sole, combine quickly with one-twos, and finish first time or with a toe-poke. Constant pressure, constant decisions.

Play a full 4v4: build with shape and width, penetrate to create and finish, and react instantly on the turnover to defend.

Play a full 3v3 game: keep the ball, create and take chances, and defend quickly when you lose it. Look to split the block with a penetrating pass and finish.

Penetrate the zone quickly. In the tight space, combine fast, time the run early, and slide the pass in before they set.

Play a runner into the end zone. Combine to draw the defenders, then time the run in behind and the pass to receive in the zone under control.

Switch to the far winger and finish. Switch it across, the winger drives on and crosses, and the striker finishes into the mini-goal.

Progress back to front and finish into the mini-goal. Into the pivot, the pivot turns and plays forward, and the striker finishes.

Set it and switch it accurately. Take a touch to set, then drive an accurate diagonal across to your teammate, who opens out and drives forward.

Switch it and attack the far side. Open your body to see the far flank, strike an accurate driven diagonal, and the receiver controls out of his feet to drive forward.

Break the line with the pass. Open your body to see the gap, disguise it, then drive the ball through the line into the receiver's feet as he checks in.

Keep the ball and play through a gate. Switch the play to drag the press, then split a pass through an open gate to a teammate who has timed the run.

Score in the mini-goal and stop them scoring in yours. Combine to split the defenders, defend as a pair, and finish accurately into the small target.

Groove the pattern. Switch across the back on open angles and release the full-back to drive out, cleanly and in rhythm.

Groove the switch. Combine to draw the passive defenders, recognise when they have shifted, and switch cleanly to the isolated winger.
