Beat a defender with the croqueta. Drive at him to make him commit, shift the ball quickly across the body from one foot to the other, and accelerate past on the far side.
The player drives at a defender, then plays a croqueta, a quick shift of the ball from one foot to the other across the body, the instant the defender commits, and accelerates away on the far side. Emphasise driving at the man first, a small sharp shift, and the acceleration after. Practise both directions. Rotate the roles.
What separates the croqueta from almost every other move worth learning is that it contains no deception at all. There is no shoulder drop, no fake, nothing sold. The ball is simply moved from one foot to the other faster than a committed defender can adjust, and it works on timing alone.
That makes it the move for a very specific moment: the instant a defender plants to tackle. A planted foot is a commitment that takes time to undo, and the croqueta exploits the gap between his decision and his ability to act on it. Played a moment too early, he has not planted and just follows the ball across. A moment too late, he has already made contact.
Because it is small, players underrate how much it demands. Both feet have to be comfortable receiving and releasing in the same motion, which is why it belongs after a player has good close control rather than as an early skill. Iniesta made it look effortless partly because the touches never exceeded the width of his stance.
The most common technical fault is pushing the ball too far across. The shift should finish inside the frame of the body, not outside it. A large touch turns a move designed to slip past a reaching leg into a ball rolled into space the defender can also reach.
The accompanying detail is the body. Leaning slightly over the ball as it crosses protects it and keeps the balance available for the acceleration out.
Save it to your private drills, then change the animation, adjust positions, swap equipment, or drop it into a session block. Or start from a blank pitch and build your own.
