Possession drills for 5v5

Play a high-intensity 4v4 in a tight space: quick decisions, sharp combinations, clean first touch, and an instant counter-press on the turnover.

Play a full 4v4: build with shape and width, penetrate to create and finish, and react instantly on the turnover to defend.

Play a high-intensity 3v3 in a tight space: quick decisions, clean first touch under pressure, and an instant reaction on the turnover.

Play a full 3v3 game: keep the ball, create and take chances, and defend quickly when you lose it. Look to split the block with a penetrating pass and finish.

Penetrate the zone quickly. In the tight space, combine fast, time the run early, and slide the pass in before they set.

Play a runner into the end zone. Combine to draw the defenders, then time the run in behind and the pass to receive in the zone under control.

Read the open goal and take it. Commit the defender to one goal, then attack the one he leaves open.

Keep the ball and play through a gate. Switch the play to drag the press, then split a pass through an open gate to a teammate who has timed the run.

Beat your man and finish; or stop him and go the other way. Attack the 1v1 with a positive move, then finish into the mini-goal.

Score in the mini-goal and stop them scoring in yours. Combine to split the defenders, defend as a pair, and finish accurately into the small target.

Keep possession and score through the free gate. Scan for the open gate, switch the play away from pressure, and drive through the gate the defenders have left open.

Beat him and get into the zone. Take the defender on, then dribble into the end zone under control to score.

Scan and switch fast. In the tight space, see the open goal early, switch quickly, and finish before they recover.

Find the open goal. Draw the defenders to one side, then switch quickly and finish in the goal they have left open.

Keep it and play through a gate with only one teammate. Move to support the instant you pass, switch to open the far gate, and time the run to receive beyond it.
