Possession drills for U13-U14

Vacating space is worthless if nobody runs into it. The drill fails when the nine drops beautifully and every teammate watches him do it.

Holding a zone while the ball is somewhere else feels like not helping. Positional play is mostly the discipline of staying put anyway.

Dropping the pivot every time you have the ball just gives away your midfield. The drop is an answer to a press, not a starting shape.

A directional build-up game from the goalkeeper. Five against three pressers, progressing through target gates: invite the press, then break the line.

Shadow play installs one shared picture so everyone knows where everyone else will be. It teaches positions, not decisions, so time-box it.

The extra man is not the weapon. A settled block absorbs an overload comfortably if the ball moves at a speed defenders can travel with.

Positions in futsal are places rather than people. The shape stays a 3-1 all game while the players occupying it change constantly.

The Guardiola grid. Four v four plus three neutrals in a zoned square: find the free man, play through the lines, use an overload you already have.

Somewhere between a drill and a match sits a format most sessions skip, and it is the only one that rehearses attacking an organised defence.

Zonal blocks orient around something, and in futsal that is the pivot. Drift him wide and the whole defence relocates with him.

Seeing out a win is under-coached and genuinely contested. Decide where you stand before you run it, because the players will ask.

Against a low block there is no space by definition. You are not finding it, you are manufacturing it, and hurrying is what prevents that.

An overload that does not threaten anything will not move a defence. The point is never the overload, it is the 1v1 waiting on the far side.
