Three exchanges per corner, then the work moves on. The repetition is deliberate: a player gets an immediate second and third go at the same pass.

With only four players, standing still after a pass makes you instantly unavailable. That is the point, and it is why this works better than a bigger grid.

Variation 3 of the four corner passing square: every pass goes into a middle man who sets it first time out to the next corner, then reverses it.

The set into the middle is barely a metre, and he has to play it out first time to a different corner. That single rule is the whole exercise.

Variation 3 of the triangle passing drill: play up into the target, take the set back first time, and release the third man who is already running.

The same travelling pair structure run at eight metres rather than three. Two gates give the longer pass something to be measured against.

The centre back receives from his keeper, opens up, and picks one of two targets forty five metres away. The touch before the pass decides whether either is available.

Because the receiver is somewhere new every time, the search is real. Nobody has to be told to look up, which is why the constraint works.
