Finishing drills for U9-U10

Attack a cutback with coordinated runs. Stagger the runs to the near post, spot, and back post so one runner is always free, then finish the pull-back first time.

Win the race as a pair and combine to score: get to the ball first, then use a quick combination to beat the recovering 2v2 and finish.

React and win the ball first, then finish the 1v1: get there ahead of your opponent, attack the goal at pace, or recover and defend if you lose the race.

Finish on instinct in a crowd. Win the loose ball first and snap a first-time finish before the keeper or the pack reacts.

Score under competition. Win the loose ball ahead of the others and finish quickly past the keeper to survive the round.

Play the one-two off the board and finish on the move. Time the run to burst onto the return in stride and drive a low finish into the goal.

Score from a 2v1. Carrier: drive at the defender to commit them, do not pass too early. Free man: stay onside, make an angle, and finish first time when the pass is released.

Score from distance off a lay-off. Time the run to arrive as the set is played, strike it first time with the laces, keep the body over the ball to keep it down, and place it into a corner.

Beat the fullback by cutting inside and finish with a curler. Attack at an angle to unbalance the defender, shift the weight sharply to cut inside onto the strong foot, and place the curl into the far corner with the inside of the foot.

Score the second chance. A separate follow-up player anticipates the parry, reads where it drops, gets there first, and finishes the rebound with placement over power.

Create separation from a marker and finish. Sell the drop to draw the defender, spin sharply across their shoulder into the space behind, take the pass in stride, and finish composed.

Create and finish a cutback. Winger: get to the byline and drive the ball back to the golden zone. Striker: time the run to arrive with the ball and finish first time with a side-foot placement.

Groove the turn. Take the first touch away from the mannequin, turn quickly, and finish low into the corner.

Strikers: run onto the ball in stride, stay composed, and pick a corner early before the keeper sets. Keepers: get into the line of the ball, time the advance, then decide, block, spread, or dive at the right moment.

Strike a moving ball first time with accuracy under fatigue, and give sets the striker can attack without breaking stride.

Square it across the six and finish at the far post. Drive to the byline, square it low across the face, and time the run to the far post to finish first-time.

Groove the dink. Stab under the ball to lift it up and over the mannequin, judging the weight to drop it into the mini-goal.

React and stab it in. Anticipate the ball across, get in front, and redirect it simply into the mini-goal.
